Died January 22, 2011 in Staunton, Virginia.

Appointed by Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr. on August 29, 1969 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of John W. Eggleston and began his service on October 1, 1969. Elected by the General Assembly on January 29, 1970 to complete the unexpired term of Eggleston. First elected to a regular 12-year term (beginning February 1, 1973) on January 31, 1973. Service terminated by retirement.
