Born March 5, 1733 in Cumberland County, Virginia.
Died June 22, 1818 in Charlotte County, Virginia.

Elected to the General Court by the General Assembly on January 23, 1778 and became a member, ex-officio, of the Court of Appeals when it met for the first time on August 30, 1779. Elected to the Court of Appeals when it was reorganized as a separate entity and began his service on that court on June 20, 1789. Service terminated by resignation.

Read law with Clement Read, Lunenburg County Clerk of Court.
