Died August 26, 1947 in Richmond, Virginia.

Elected by the General Assembly on February 19, 1930 to complete the unexpired term of Richard Henry Lee Chichester and began his service the same day. Elected on February 7, 1940 to a regular 12-year term beginning February 1, 1941. Service terminated by death.

Professional career:
Teacher, Rappahannock County, Virginia.
Private practice of law in Madison County, Virginia (1899-1909) and Orange County, Virginia (1909-1930).
Virginia state delegate, 1914-1916.
