Appointed by Governor Harry Flood Byrd on November 5, 1929 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Judge Jesse F. West and began his service on November 20, 1929. Elected by the General Assembly on January 20, 1930 to complete the unexpired term of West. Service terminated by death.
